One of those "picturesque" industries dear to the hearts of modelers is the Junkyard or Scrapyard. In general, they mainly dealt with iron and steel remains, but not always. (Bloomfield Wreckers in Troy seems to have salvaged wood parts.)
Scrapyards collect locally and then every so often, fill a gon with iron scrap to be sent to added into a blast furnace or other iron making facility.
