When modelers discuss modeling grasses, they are generally referring to the unkempt wild type that springs up wherever there is dirt, water, and light. (Cultivated lawns are rare on most layouts.)

Modelers have tried dyed sawdust, then plaster mixed with dry color, and now ground foam rubber. To our taste, the ground foam has too "chunky" a texture for grasses, which are fibrous.
