Overview
The D&H began in 1823 as a canal company to move Pennsylvania anthracite to New York City, and throughout the steam era, they were primarily a coal hauler. In the 1950's, they made a successful transition to a bridge line road. While bituminous coal still moves in great quantity on American railroads, anthracite shipments are all but forgotten.
