- Both the Rutland and the D&H
standardized on American Locomotive Company's
(Alco) locos, including their
RS-3's. The Rutland got their first RS-3 in
1950,the RS-3 demonstrator no. 1601, renumbered Rutland 200. (Despite
the Rutland's long association with Alco, the Rutland got
the RS-3 demonstrator along with a BAR GP-7 - or GP-9.
The RS-3 came off better, and the Rutland just went ahead and purchased the demo.)
