Curves

With real tracks, it wasn't possible to swing a bar or string to lay out a curve, but instead curves were measured by measuring a 100 foot chord and determining how many degrees of a circle it had curved. If passenger cars were 100 feet long instead of 80, this would be the angle in degrees that one car makes with the next as it goes around the curve.
