This is the old tooling for a strange fishbelly side sill box car with metal sides and a wood door. I think MDC kinda' followed the PRR XL box car builder's photo, 1906 Cyc (or maybe the B&O convertible box car/hopper shown in the Nov. '64 Model Railroader - based on an article in the March 23, 1901 Railway & Engineering Review) but gave the kit sheet metal sides.
