Originally the main line of the D&H was built across Bulwagga Bay at Port Henry, NY on a low trestle, but even before the line was opened in the 1870's, ice floes knocked the trestle out of alignment. The line was then rerouted along the shore of the lake. (Portions of the trestle can still be seen.)
