- The D&H standardized on American
Locomotives (Alco) RS-2's and RS-3's. The D&H
was buying diesels back in WWII. (The
first one they purchased was
a single S-2 in 1944.)
At first, the D&H painted their early
diesels in their steam loco scheme,
black with a boxed-in cab number.
Realizing later the quieter diesels
gave less warning of their approach,
yellow stripes were added on the
nose.
- The D&H got their RS-3 diesels as such:
- 4000-4004 Nov. - Dec. '46.
