This section is basically covering the gons with the giant air pistons to tilt the top of the car, not ALL cars that dump.
Got to thinking about this. The air cylinders must have been activated off the train air line, which in turn means this can't predate the general acceptance of air brakes.
- In the 1898 Cyc, there was a single truck
air dump car, built by Thatcher. It could carry 20 tons. This
might be among the earliest of these cars.
