A tree house is one of those details that your visitors will go "oooh" and "aaaaahh" over, and it seems such a normal thing that one would think it dated back to antiquity. After all, primitive peoples have built shelters up in trees, but we are talking about a child's playhouse. (Even a sailing ship's crow's nest could be an inspiration - but apparently wasn't.)
