Wood Craftsman Kits
The earlier kits in the hobby used wood such as basswood. Basswood is fine if you are modeling a wood car, but to represent steel, the wood components have to be sealed. It seemed like an endless task of brushing on coats of sanding sealer, letting it dry and sanding it down, and this was before you even started assembling the kit.
